Local bus system starts up in JulyBy the end of July, Baytown will have it's first public transit system in place, with two 22-person buses running. Now, some might say that 2 buses alone isn't going to really make a scratch, but if placed correctly and offered to the right demographic of Baytown citizens, I can see this program becoming successful. This is something that Baytown needs, and has needed for some time.
Public transit has many benefits, including reducing a population's overall fuel consumption and easing the traffic load on local streets, thereby reducing the amount of emissions/pollution released into the air and making the roads more accessible and less stressful for local drivers.
At local fares of $1 for adults, $.50 for children and offering Lee College students the ability to ride for free, Baytown is offering a cheap way to get around. With rising gas prices, and a percentage of lower and working class people in Baytown, this could be a life saver for many with strapped budgets, worrying over how they are going to get to work and around town.
I would encourage everyone to utilize this service, and if not feasible for specific locations / lifestyles, at least show your support for this service, so that it may grow into even more routes available to the public.

I think this is awesome and should have been done a long time ago. I see so many people walking around town because they don't have vehicles. Now for a buck they can get off the street and get to where they're going so much faster. And letting the students ride for free is a nice touch. For once I'm cheering and not jeering hehe. Good job Baytown.
METRO tried to get a special (back when) tax in Baytown to implement the bus thing. Tax didn't pass so maybe this is a blessing for those that depend on public transportation.
In due time, it will work.
